The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

The American Red Cross is not a government agency.  It is an independent, humanitarian, voluntary organization.  All Red Cross assistance is given free of charge, made possible by the generosity of loyal volunteers and donors.

The goal of the American Red Cross is to ensure nationwide disaster planning, preparedness, community disaster education, mitigation and response that will provide the community with quality services.
